About
Cary Lee is a Devon-based Australian artist who specialises in pencil drawings, painting, and digital painting. Alongside his art, Cary has worked within community mental health services since 2003, both in Australia and the UK. Cary’s interest in mental health influences his art practice and much of his work references personal experiences with issues such as addiction, isolation, suicide, and grief/loss.
Cary’s work has been exhibited in Sydney, London, and more recently Devon. His last exhibition,Together Without You (2019) featured at the Harbour House, Kingsbridge, and explored themes of grief and romance through the use of graphite and pencil.
Following the exhibition in 2019, Cary decided to move away from pencil to explore colour and paint, and was inspired by a trip to Tuscany. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cary’s attention turned to flowers as a method to reduce feelings of isolation and separation, to express love, hope, and connection. This period led to the creation of a series of colourful and joyful paintings of local flowers from the Devon countryside and gardens. You can check out Cary’s Instagram here.
