Volunteer programme back open, dates live for information sessions

For the first time since it was closed due to the COVID—19 pandemic, the Devon Mind volunteering programme is finally back open! Registrations are now open for support volunteers — read on if you would like to find out more about supporting us in the running of groups, courses, workshops, and more.

Like many charities, Devon Mind has always relied on the support of incredible volunteers from across Devon to help with our work, including our mental health support services, fundraising, and events. Over the last few years, we’ve had a massive number of enquiries from people interested in volunteering with us, so we’re really excited to be launching our support volunteers programme.

Our support volunteers are crucial members of our support services team, helping our Recovery Practitioner staff in providing various mental health support services. As a support volunteer, you’ll help us to deliver our core in-person services, including support groups, courses and workshops, and other outreach and feedback sessions. Here’s how you can get involved as a volunteer:

1. Check out the role overview on our website

If you’re interested in finding out more about becoming a support volunteer, head to the support volunteers page on our website now. Check the information on the role there, see if you’re interested in finding out more, and sign up for one of the volunteer information sessions at the bottom of the page. Every support volunteer must first attend an information session.

2. Apply, then attend an information session

The dates for our first two support volunteer information sessions are below:

20 March 2023
Support Volunteer Information Session #1
Monday 20 March 2023
11:00am — 12:30pm
Ernest English House, Plymouth
23 March 2023
Support Volunteer Information Session #2
Thursday 23 March 2023
2:00pm — 3:30pm
Ernest English House, Plymouth

These sessions will provide an introduction to all the exciting new roles available to support volunteers, as well as an opportunity for you to discuss the roles with our team and raise any questions or concerns you might have. Please note: By attending a volunteer information session, you are not obligated to proceed with volunteering — it is merely an opportunity to find out more about the programme. Equally, attendance at a session does not guarantee that you will be invited to join the programme.

3. We’ll give you everything you need

If you’re accepted onto our support volunteer programme, we’ll get you all set up so that you’re as confident and knowledgeable as you need to be to support our services! We have a robust training programme designed ready for our first cohort of volunteers, plus we’ll give you all the support you need as you get up to speed. We’ll work together to identify the roles best suited to you.

So, if you’re one of the many people who have been waiting to get involved with our support services, now is the time! Head over to our support volunteers page to find out more, check out what the role has to offer, find an information session that works for you, and get your application in!
