Last week, we met with organisers of Salcombe Crabfest to thank them for raising £2,500 for Devon Mind at this year’s event. The popular one-day food festival, organised by the Rotary Club of Salcombe in the South Hams area, took place this year on Sunday 30 April 2023 and featured fundraising for Devon Mind alongside Chill South Devon and Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

Salcombe Crabfest took place for the first time in 2016, with the annual event now a staple of the local calendar. The event showcases local fishing, food, drink and tourism industries, as well as featuring hands-on cookery demonstrations by award-winning chefs, crab picking masterclasses, crab pot making, live music, kids activities, and more. For charities and community groups, Crabfest has raised over £50,000 since its first year, with £10,000 of that benefiting this year’s three organisations.

Andre Sexton, Marketing & Fundraising Manager at Devon Mind, said of the fundraising:

We would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who attended or was involved with this year’s Salcombe Crabfest, for raising an incredible £2,500 for Devon Mind! This is a huge amount of money for us, which will enable us to provide bespoke support for numerous people across Devon experiencing mental health problems.

Salcombe Crabfest 2024 will take place on Sunday 5 May 2024. Charities for next year are yet to be announced. You can find out more about the event at salcombecrabfest.co.uk.
