World Mental Health Day 2023!

World Mental Health Day is on Tuesday 10 October 2023.

The theme for 2023, set by the World Federation of Mental Health, is ‘mental health is a universal human right’. Each year it’s a day to collectively raise awareness of mental health problems and drive positive change for everyone’s mental health.

But more and more of us are aware of mental health. And so many of us still aren't getting the right support. We’re still facing stigma and discrimination. And the cost of living crisis is only making it harder to look after our mental health.

Awareness is just the start. Now it’s time to act.

That could be starting a conversation to help break down the stigmas associated with mental health. Creating a fundraiser for Devon Mind. Signing the petition to change the Mental Health Act. Donating to help contribute towards our support services. Registering for one of our online training seminars. Or it could be you taking the first step to support your own, or someone else’s mental health. There are so many different ways to take action for World Mental Health Day.

Big or small, whatever you do you'll be joining the fight for better mental health. Your actions will help to make a real difference within our community.

What will you do this World Mental Health Day?

The latest research into the lived experience of mental health has shown the following:

  • Over a third (34%) of people are still too embarrassed to ask for support

  • Young people are saying they feel stigmatised by mental health professionals

  • Nearly half of us (44%) trying to access treatments like talking therapies feel like we’re not supported on time
