Hele Bay Merbabes 2023 calendar in aid of Devon Mind!

A brave group of North Devon sea swimmers, the Hele Bay Merbabes, recently stripped off for a cheeky calendar to raise money for two charities and promote body positivity. Sales from the 2023 calendar will be donated to Devon Mind and East Sussex-based British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), which rescues seals and other marine animals.

The cold water swimming group, which was founded three years ago and grew in popularity during the pandemic, incorporates a strong focus on mental wellbeing, as well as fundraising for local causes. Last month, Jane Coleman from the group featured on North Devon’s The Voice FM to talk all about the calendars and the positive response they have received from the local community. You can listen to the radio interview below:

Terri Ingram, fellow Hele Bay Merbabes swimmer, commented:

We really wanted to create something that normalises bodies of all shapes and sizes in a very tasteful, elegant way. Our charities are very important to us — Devon Mind, who do so much work for mental health and wellbeing; and BDMLR, who look after seals along with other marine life.

Andre Pusey, Marketing & Fundraising Manager at Devon Mind, added:

We’re so grateful to the Hele Bay Merbabes for taking on a challenge for their chosen charities which I have no doubt has been fun and terrifying in equal measures! It never gets old seeing how much people across our community are willing to do to help raise money and awareness for mental health across Devon. We never take it for granted and are so thankful for everyone’s support.

The stunning images used in the 2023 calendar were taken at Hele Bay Beach by local photographer Jo Williams. The calendars are priced at £9.95 each for collection or local delivery, or £12.95 each with postage. All profits will be split equally between Devon Mind and BDMLR.
