Monthly conservation sessions for positive wellbeing

Overview:

We are pleased to share that we are partnering with Tulgey Woods Sanctuary CIC to offer monthly conservation sessions, on an initial 3-month trial basis.

Tulgey Woods is a conservation project based across almost 10 acres in Plymouth that aims to increase habitat and biodiversity, educate and promote environmental innovation, and create an oasis of calm and refuge within the city for those in need. Not only is the woodland a haven for wildlife, it also serves as a source of social, physical, and mental benefits for those involved. Research has shown that woodlands can:

  • help reduce stress, improve mood, lower blood pressure, increase physical activity, enhance creativity, foster learning, and strengthen social ties

  • offer environmental benefits such as carbon sequestration, air quality improvement, water regulation, soil conservation, noise reduction, and climate change mitigation

Tulgey Woods currently offers a number of weekly volunteer sessions for members of the community to get involved. We are excited to be joining their sessions as an opportunity to introduce clients to the benefits of spending time in nature, as part of the five ways to wellbeing.

3rd Wednesday of each month

Wednesday 21 August, Wednesday 18 September, and Wednesday 16 October 2024, 1:00pm — 3:00pm

Please note: The conservation activities involved require a level of physical ability and mobility due to the woodlands natural habitat. Any training and equipment needed for each activity will be provided during the beginning of each session. Activities during each session will vary and be dependent on the current needs of the wildlife. It is advised that comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing and footwear is worn.
