Understanding & Coping with Feelings of Anxiety
Exploring tools and tips to help us cope with feelings of anxiety
Workshop overview:
Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety from time to time, but not everyone’s experiences will be exactly the same. Understanding and Coping with Feelings of Anxiety will help you to gain an understanding of what anxiety is and why you might experience these feelings at any particular time — sometimes for no obvious reason.
Throughout this workshop, we will share how we feel when we get anxious, what our symptoms may be, and how these can affect us both physically and mentally. We will try to understand how things have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact this may have had (and continues to have) on us.
We will also look at how the brain works, how certain responses can be triggered, and how these triggers can affect us emotionally. We will explore thinking traps that can sometimes keep the anxiety loop running over and over in our heads, as well as exploring some tools and tips that may be able to help us cope with our feelings of anxiety. Finally, we will look at some resources that you might want to consider using in the future.
Workshop format:
Understanding and Coping with Feelings of Anxiety is a single-session workshop consisting of 1 x 2.5-hour in-person or 1 x 2-hour online session. The workshop is hosted by our Recovery Practitioner staff and Support Volunteers, who will guide attendees through a presentation focused on the core topics above. The in-person session will include elements of group discussion and will allow time for questions. The online format will include discussion through group chat, breakout rooms, text chat, and we will allow time for questions. This workshop is free to attend and registration is required to join.
