Devon — Support #YourLocalMind this Local Mind Week

This week (Monday 31 July — Sunday 6 August 2023) marks Local Mind Week, a relatively new event in the annual calendar which aims to shine a light on the work of local Minds, a network of local, highly specialised charities.

Did you know that Devon Mind is an independent charity?

This might sound like legal mumbo-jumbo, but it’s actually a really important distinction to make. Devon Mind, like all local Minds, is run by local people, for local people. We raise our own funds and have our own board of trustees, who are responsible for how we run. Being truly local means we understand our communities, so we provide services that people need locally.

We’re part of a network of local Minds across England and Wales, which means we benefit from sharing knowledge and ideas. However, we are ultimately responsible for our own funding — we must ensure that we have enough money to deliver our mental health support services year on year. We’re also responsible for our own governance and awareness-raising efforts.

“Being a local Mind gives us the best of both worlds — we benefit from some of the resources of national Mind, but we also get the autonomy of an independent charity. Plus, we share knowledge and ideas with other local Minds!”

Andre, Devon Mind Marketing & Fundraising Manager

Our services help thousands of people across Devon each year. We support people’s mental health in many different ways — from support groups to courses and workshops, our flagship counselling service, and linking with other local organisations to ensure all-round care. And we always have big plans for increasing our support offering and improving access to information and advice.

That’s where you come in.

We’re proud to be part of the wider Mind family, which includes the national Mind charity and its retail shops. Mind supports some services with grants and provides other indirect support. But there’s so much more we can do. Help us do more locally for mental health by making a donation or fundraising for us. Supporting #YourLocalMind means you directly support people in Devon.

If you’re thinking about supporting the fight for mental health with a donation or fundraiser, consider doing so for Devon Mind. By supporting Devon Mind, you will be contributing directly to our ability to help people living across Devon with their mental health. From 1:1 emotional support to groups, courses and workshops, we support thousands of people every year in your local community.

Welcome to the fight for mental health across Devon!
