Raising awareness for World Mental Health Day!

World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is an annual awareness raising event that is celebrated globally on 10th October every year and aims to promote better mental health and encourage conversations and shared experiences to help drive real change. This year’s theme is to make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.

World Mental Health Day has never been more important, with growing social and economic inequalities, along with stigma and discrimination, poor access to care, and the increased the need for mental health support services.

As a result, increased poor mental health is likely to affect many more of us. We know that more must be done in the fight for better mental health and we are ever more committed to supporting the needs of our community.

We wanted to share a reminder of some of the key statistics around the impact of mental health and some small suggestions of how you can get involved and support WMHD today.

Did you know?

  • Even though 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem each year, too many of us don’t know where to reach out for support, or how to share what we’re going through.

  • 1 in 6 young people have a mental health problem.

  • Around a third of adults and young people said their mental health has gotten much worse since March 2020.

  • People in the poorest fifth of the population are twice as likely to be at risk of developing mental health problems as those on an average income.
